When Lorrayne Coelho first came across Lidiar Group on LinkedIn, she was drawn in by its multidisciplinary approach and practical, outcome-focused reputation. With experience across a variety of sectors, Lorrayne was looking for an environment that would challenge her, allow her to keep learning, and match her values around collaboration and capability-building.

“What stood out to me was Lidiar Group’s mission to connect and empower clients by energising and strengthening their capabilities,” she says. “That really aligned with what I was looking for—being part of work that supports people and makes a lasting impact.”

An Experience That Exceeded Expectations

Lorrayne joined Lidiar Group expecting a fast-paced workplace. What she didn’t expect was the high level of trust and collaboration she experienced from day one.

“It’s exceeded my expectations,” she says. “I was able to contribute to meaningful work immediately, which is so important to me. The team is welcoming, and the leadership is approachable and supportive. You feel empowered to make decisions but also know that help is there when you need it.”

Working on Projects That Matter

One of the most rewarding aspects of Lorrayne’s time so far has been her current project – working with the commercial team of a defence company to review and improve processes.

“It started as a process review,” she explains, “but it’s grown into something much broader, including improving engagement with sales, increasing visibility, and strengthening data security. It’s strategic, but also very hands-on. I enjoy that mix.”

Her day-to-day work varies, which she enjoys. “It’s a dynamic environment. You have your schedule, but the direction can shift depending on client needs. I like the challenge of that.”

Developing Processes with Purpose

Lorrayne’s background in engineering gave her a structured way of thinking, but working at Lidiar Group has helped her develop a deeper understanding of how people and culture shape success.

“Processes don’t exist in isolation,” she says. “You’re not just writing documents – you’re influencing how people work and interact. It takes time and involvement. The most rewarding part is when people understand the value and start to adopt the changes in a way that makes their work better.”

While she enjoys developing processes and systems – she’s currently building one in SharePoint – Lorrayne says she’s not overly rigid in her approach. “I’m organised in my own way, but I’m also flexible. I try to think about what works best for the whole team, not just for me.”

A Culture That Supports Learning and Collaboration

For Lorrayne, one of the best aspects of working at Lidiar Group is the learning culture.

“Development here happens naturally and intentionally,” she says. “You’re encouraged to take ownership, work on complex projects, and bring your strengths to the table while developing new ones.”

That support also comes from her colleagues. “The people here are knowledgeable, professional, and always looking for ways to improve how we do things. It’s collaborative, not competitive. That really stood out to me during the interview process, and the reality has been even better.”

Advice for Others Considering Lidiar Group

If someone is thinking about joining Lidiar Group, Lorrayne has simple advice:
“Come ready to grow, collaborate, and learn something new every day.”

Since 2022, Lidiar Group has worked with one of Queensland’s first 100% Indigenous-owned plant and equipment owners to support their push for accreditation.

Led by Lidiar Group’s Health and Safety Associate Savio Pereira, the partnership was initiated when assistance was sought following an External ISO management systems audit, which identified the need to remedy minor non-conformances and enhance user-centricity. To support the goal, our team crafted a customised Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned with ISO 9001 and 45001 certification requirements, primarily guided by Usability Mapping principles. Through this process, Savio personally supported, coached, and mentored a new HSSE Officer, achieving recertification in their latest audit.

Savio said of the project, “The feedback on the developed systems has been overwhelmingly positive, not only from the External ISO IMS auditor but also from the team utilising these systems.”

Drawing from experience on the opposite end, Savio emphasises that an integrated management system should consider the workforce’s capacity and capability, tailoring it to their comprehension.

“Consultation is key. I’m a huge advocate for continuous improvement at both the leadership and grassroots levels, maintaining a strong focus on enhancing user-centricity,” said Savio.

“We are proud to have helped our client to achieve outstanding outcomes that provide significant value to not only their internal teams, but clients as well,” said Savio. Lidiar Group team members Julio Bará and Savio Pereira can be connected via LinkedIn.

An advocate for making health, safety and wellbeing topics relevant to the workforce and C-Suite business leaders, Julio is passionate about working closely with clients to improve staff engagement and senior-level involvement, especially when it comes to emphasising preventative health and safety and risk-based programs, not just compliance.

“Throughout my career, I have taken the approach of ensuring the delivery of related policies and procedures to minimise risk and to promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture. Providing and fostering a healthy environment for our teams, clients and communities is vital.
“I am excited to join Lidiar Group and to lead a team of health and safety professionals committed to enhancing the performance of our client’s projects, as well as the Lidiar Group team, through exceptional risk-management and proactive health and wellbeing strategies founded on considered frameworks,” said Julio.

“I have seen time and time again the positive impact of what implementing safety leadership coaching and mentoring across all levels of business can bring to elevating workplace culture, staff engagement, and ultimately, client success. I look forward to advocating for Lidiar Group and its clients’ health, safety, and wellbeing across internal and external projects.”

In his blog series, Natig Nabiyev has broken down his industry-leading approach to quality management. In The Importance of Quality Management, he looked at the necessary and beneficial role it plays in a project’s lifecycle. In this blog, Natig breaks down the fundamentals that we use to underpin our approach to the success of our clients’ projects.

The importance of Quality Management in project execution cannot be overstated. It is the cornerstone that upholds customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and projects and organisations’ overall success and sustainability.

By taking a holistic approach, from the planning stages to completion and beyond, we ensure clients achieve Practical Completion requirements efficiently and faster, setting a new benchmark in the construction industry.

The approach outlined in this blog has proven successful, providing vital support to our clients and maximising the benefits of project involvement for every stakeholder and delivery partner.

Quality Planning

Quality Planning is a pivotal function in each phase of project delivery, as highlighted previously. This involves establishing objectives and processes necessary for delivering a product or service in alignment with predetermined quality specifications. Key components of Quality Planning include:

Conducting a quality risk assessment is crucial. It involves a systematic process of identifying, analysing, and evaluating potential hazards and consequences that may impact the quality of a product, service, or process.

Development of the Quality Management Plan, outlining the overall approach for ensuring quality compliance and delivery strategies to mitigate any risks identified during quality risk assessment.

The establishment of key project delivery processes, as specified in the Project Quality Plan, encompasses creating procedures, work method statements, standards, and work instructions for each process.

Planning Inspection and Testing activities. This involves identifying and developing Inspection and Test Plans and Checklists for the final product. These plans incorporate key verification, hold, witness, and inspection points in alignment with applicable standards, technical specifications, drawings, and regulations, making it crucial to ensure that the product or service meets its intended use or is fit for purpose.

Planning work packs/lots that outline inspection work for equipment or functional locations is essential to ensure effective delivery and close-out activities.

Planning resources to ensure processes are undertaken by qualified and approved personnel.

Top of Form

Planning materials procurement, testing and certification to ensure that materials meet the prescribed standard and achieve an accepted level of quality.

Planning quality management systems and tools (document management, field data capture, ncr/car management, completions management system, welding traceability, etc.) to ensure a systematic approach to quality management processes is essential. This guarantees traceability at each level of product delivery and maintains control over project deliverables.

Planning internal and external audits for Quality Management Systems and audits for project and product delivery is crucial to ensure compliance with ISO and project and product requirements. This process spans the project lifecycle and encompasses subcontractor and supplier organisations, specifically emphasising product quality.

Planning the completion of the final product and the handover process to the Client/End User/Operations Team is a crucial step. This phase is essential to confirm that the system or product meets the required standards and is safe to operate. During this stage, the identification of the Manufacturer Data Report (MDR) Index and the planning of the MDR Structure for applicable work packages become critical, ensuring the prescribed level of quality.

Training and Induction of key personnel to ensure that all key project stakeholders understand and accept quality requirements. Quality requirements are detailed in the Project Management Plan, which outlines the overall approach for ensuring quality compliance.

Key Actions

When the Quality Planning is completed, there are key actions fundamental to success. They are:

– Monitoring and verifying that processes are performed according to the defined quality standards and Inspection and Test Plans. This involves inspecting and testing products or services to ensure they meet the specified criteria and supported by providing evidence of compliance, such as product inspection certificates, Inspection and Test Checklists or Compliance Verification Records completed by an authorised person or testing authority.

Quality Assurance – A proactive approach to prevent defects and errors by implementing systematic processes and procedures. Quality Assurance involves ongoing evaluation and improvement of processes to ensure consistent quality.

Continuous Improvement – This involves an ongoing effort to improve products, services, or processes. It emphasises incremental and continuous enhancements to achieve higher levels of efficiency and effectiveness.

Customer Focus – Placing a strong emphasis on understanding and meeting customer needs and expectations. Customer feedback is a must to drive improvements in products and services.

Employee Involvement – Involving employees at all levels in the organization in the quality management process. This can include training, empowerment, and recognition of employees for their contributions to quality improvement.

Process Approach – Viewing the organisation as a series of interconnected processes, each contributing to the achievement of quality objectives. Managing these processes effectively is crucial for overall quality management.

As with everything, you need to tailor and adapt your approach to suit the requirements of the project, but the fundamental approach should not change.

At Lidiar Group, we have an experienced team of quality management professionals with experience across resources, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, civil engineering, and transport projects. To learn more about quality you can be assured of:

Lidiar Group’s Natig Nabiyev is a Quality Management leader who has seen the benefits of taking a clear, precise and considered approach to quality management to give a project the best possible opportunity to achieve program, budget and contractual success.

In the latest of our Importance of Series, Natig discusses the Importance of Quality Management.

Quality Management plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the success of projects and organisations. By adopting a comprehensive approach to quality, businesses ensure that their products, services, and processes meet and often surpass established quality standards and expectations. This commitment to excellence is driven by the primary goal of enhancing customer satisfaction.

Rigorous adherence to quality standards is essential to mitigate risks associated with poor planning, resource limitations, and project budget constraints. Meeting prescribed criteria from governmental authorities, clients, and organisations becomes critical for success, ensuring that deliverables align with design standards and maintain the integrity of assets throughout their operational lifecycle.

Quality Management is not just a set of processes but a strategic imperative for organisations aiming to thrive in a competitive landscape. It serves as a proactive shield against client dissatisfaction, reputational damage, and missed business opportunities. Ultimately, the emphasis on quality is not just about meeting standards; it’s about exceeding customer expectations, fostering trust, and demonstrating a commitment to delivering superior products and services.

At Lidiar Group, prioritising customer needs is foundational to successful operations. Therefore, proper planning is essential to ensure compliance and the delivery of a high-quality product.

Drawing upon my extensive experience in overseeing Quality Management throughout the lifecycle of various projects, I can confidently assert that the presence of the Quality Function at every stage is indispensable. From the initial stages of project conception to execution, project establishment, delivery, completion, and even the subsequent handover and warranty period, the role of Quality Management is pivotal. Each of these phases holds a critical position in ensuring the overall success of a project.

Effective planning, particularly at each level of this comprehensive project lifecycle, significantly influences the quality outcomes and the seamless execution and completion of the project. The pre-execution phase requires meticulous attention to detail, project establishment demands strategic planning, and project delivery necessitates precision and adherence to quality standards. Furthermore, the critical phases of project completion, handover, and the warranty period demand sustained commitment to quality management to ensure that the delivered product or service meets and exceeds expectations.

My experience underscores the importance of integrating the Quality Function seamlessly into every facet of the project journey. This approach is not merely a best practice; it is a prerequisite for achieving successful project outcomes, client satisfaction, and long-term success in the dynamic landscape of project management consultancy.

At Lidiar Group, we have an experienced team of quality management professionals with experience across resources, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, civil engineering, and transport projects. To learn more about quality, you can be assured of the following:

From Baku via Trondheim to Brisbane, Natig Nabiyev brings Quality Management experience and qualifications to multinational construction oil and gas, pipelines, defence and HV Power Infrastructure projects to Lidiar Group.

Leveraging advanced expertise in the ISO series of standards, Natig is a certified ISO 9001/ISO 14001/18001 & AS/NZS 4801 Lead Auditor. He excels in identifying, developing, and managing the control and oversight of project documentation, systems, and processes within engineering and construction project environments.

We caught up with Natig to learn a little bit more about his approach to supporting our clients and their projects.

“Projects are inherently unique, each presenting its own set of challenges and unforeseen circumstances. Often, these challenges arise due to inadequate planning and a shortage of dedicated qualified resources, primarily caused by limited project budgets. Since all projects must adhere to specific criteria and requirements mandated by governmental authorities, clients, and organisations, it becomes imperative to meet these standards,” said Natig.

“This ensures that project deliverables align with design standards, guaranteeing the required quality to maintain the integrity of assets throughout their long-term operation.”

“Meeting these criteria is essential for ensuring that assets are delivered to a design standard, confirming their fitness for purpose under normal operational conditions. Additionally, they must be safe to operate, even in conditions that exceed the original design specifications, without negatively impacting the environment.”

It is Natig’s significant experience observing projects across various sectors and multiple countries that provides a clear picture of the impacts of a lack of planning and quality management that can cause long-term project pain.

“Over my 16 years of experience in a diverse range of projects, I have observed firsthand how inadequate planning and a lack of understanding of project quality requirements can result in substantial delays, cost overruns, client dissatisfaction, reputational damage, and missed business opportunities. These outcomes can be particularly costly for any business,” said Natig.

In an upcoming series of blogs, Natig will examine the impact and effectiveness of Quality Management and how Lidiar Group can assure quality on every project.

Lidiar Group NT’s Arthur Dimitropoulos is at the 12th Annual NT Major Projects Conference in Darwin. With a focus on the Territory Government’s record $4.07bn capital works program, so far, the conference has set the scene for the significant investment being made in public infrastructure to support the Territory’s growth. Here’s Arthur’s recap on the first day.

“The mood in the conference, much like the recent NT Resources Week conference, was very positive, as the vision for the Territory’s future investment in projects to support new industries, growing sectors, population growth and more were outlined,” said Arthur.

“It was also a great opportunity to hear first-hand about progress being made on key projects and the opportunities for industry to be involved in their future delivery. The three projects Arthur has held a special interest in were, the Darwin Ship Lift Project, and the Adelaide River Off-Stream Water Storage (AROWS) Project and SunCable. Each one is critical to the Territory’s development, but with each facing different challenges, it was good to gain a perspective on those challenges and to hear the approaches taken to resolve them.

Ship Lift Project

Despite facing significant negative press in recent years, the Ship Lift Project has shown commendable progress in its design phase, reaching a point where the early works program can move forward. This milestone has paved the way for the imminent implementation of a procurement strategy, which notably highlights the involvement of local content. The project, however, has encountered hurdles, particularly due to geotechnical conditions that have impacted design specifications for marine piling and dredging, contributing to the well-publicised delays. Additionally, thorough detailed design considerations, as well as the planning of construction methodologies and phasing, were key points that were addressed.

Adelaide River Off-Stream Water Storage (AROWS) Project

The Adelaide River Off-Stream Water Storage (AROWS) Project, highlighted through both a presentation and an exhibition stall, is a visionary two-stage development approach aimed at ensuring the sustainability of Darwin’s future water supply. The first stage of the project is focused on bringing the disused Manton Dam back into service. The second and more long-term stage involves a novel approach to water storage: diverting overflow from the Adelaide River into an adjacent naturally occurring ridge-formed basin, to serve as catchment. This innovative method minimises the environmental impact typically associated with traditional dam construction. The collected water will then be piped to a treatment facility in Darwin and integrated into the existing water supply network, catering to industrial, commercial, and residential needs. This project is of critical importance as Darwin’s water demand is projected to double by 2050, and without such infrastructure, the urban water supply faces a substantial risk. Environmental assessments are currently underway, and conceptual designs have been commissioned, with the goal of completing construction by 2029 and having the infrastructure fully operational by 2030.

SunCable

While SunCable was placed into administration earlier this year, a surprisingly positive forecast has emerged for the project’s future. A restructured, phased approach is now being proposed, yet, retaining the ambitious goals to significantly bolster generation, supply and integration of renewable energy capacity into the Darwin grid, by a factor of nearly four (according to current consumption demand), amounting to 3.9GW per annum. Additionally, the project still aims to establish a deep-sea power cable to deliver 15% of Singapore’s current power demand, equivalent to 1.75GW annually. SunCable’s strategy capitalises on the global push towards decarbonisation, recognising the challenges that the Asia-Pacific region faces in achieving these targets. It also plans to explore the advantages of international electricity trade across regional grids. Australia’s potential as a solar power juggernaut, alongside technological advancements in critical project components such as solar panels, cabling, and battery technology, are seen as pivotal factors for SunCable’s success.

Day 2 of the Gladstone Engineering Alliance Conference was shaped by a major announcement and the scale of Gladstone’s development coming into context.

“All Gladstone Engineering Alliance events are of the highest quality, and the annual conference has been no exception,” said Lidiar Group’s Niall Callan. “From tours to see the projects shaping the region’s future to high-quality speakers from across the government and industry, the conference has been superbly organised and run.”

“The big news from Day 2 is the memorandum of understanding signed by Sumitomo and Rio Tinto to work together on a feasibility study to supply hydrogen for Rio Tinto’s Gladstone operations. The project will see the construction of a 2.5MN electrolyser to supply Hydrogen to the Yarwun refinery and upgrades to a calciner to operate using hydrogen. The trial is expected to see 6,000 tonnes of alumina produced while reducing emissions by 3,000 tonnes per year.”

“This is a significant step; when the private sector, supported by federal funding, can prove a concept, the potential for us to realise the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy source becomes stronger. This trial could be significant, not just for the parties involved, but for the sector as a whole and we are excited to see what the outcome will be.”

“It was also good to hear a key project update from H2U’s Attilio Pigneri, who went through the progress they have been making in getting their facilities in Gladstone through the approval process and the various partners they have been working with to develop the project. Once again, it highlighted the need for collaboration between business, government and community to ensure that vital developments can progress, communities are engaged, and critical projects can become a reality.”

“The session also made me reflect on the scale of the development happening in Gladstone, putting projects into context that we had seen on the tour on Tuesday. I can now visualise the locations and get some perspective on the size of these projects and how they link up. Seeing that the Yarwun site would be the production facility and that Fisherman’s Landing would be the export precinct and knowing the distance between them could give me a good understanding of what will be required in supporting infrastructure and development to support Gladstone’s role as one of Queensland most important economic and industrial centres.”

Lidiar Group’s Niall Callan is back in Gladstone for the Gladstone Engineering Alliance Conference and has been taking in key local projects and the first day of presentations and discussion.

“I always look forward to my trips to Gladstone, Lidiar Group has a long history with the region and every time I return, I am impressed by the development underway that will secure the region’s position as an economic, renewable energy and new minerals powerhouse,” said Niall.

“This was clear when I took the Gladstone industry bus tour on Tuesday. We visited Fisherman Landing, where we saw the extensive areas set aside for future green energy projects. We could see the impressive LNG plants on Curtis Island from the wharf. We visited the FFI Facility in Yarwun; it was amazing to see the progress they have made in such a short time. Similarly, Alpha HPA’s site is up and running, with plans for the next phase underway.”

“And the activity to support renewable energy is on another level, as you can see from the scale of the turbine waiting for transportation to the Clark Creek wind farm 150km north of Rockhampton. The trucks leave Gladstone at 11 PM nightly, and seeing logistics involved, you cannot help but be impressed by the manufacturing, engineering skill and logistical know-how on display.”

After a day of visiting key projects, Niall headed to the GEA Speakers and Sponsors Harbour Cruise, where another of Gladstone’s vital resources facilities came into view.

“LNG has long been central to Gladstone, and you can see from the scale of the facilities just how important the export of LNG to our global partners will be for revenue to Australia and to meet demand.”

On day one of the conference taking, Niall was impressed by the keynote speakers and the candid and honest way they shared their insights, past learning and future plans.

“In our industry, we often talk about learning from mistakes of the past, but how many times do we really do that and take the time to share those learnings with the rest of the industry? The presentation from Jarrod Irving and Jane Wilson from the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group stood out for me as an example of how we should share information to create best practice. They explained how their proposed location for their Hydrogen Park in Gladstone met opposition from the local community and it was refreshing to hear how open they were about the errors they made in their assumptions and what learnings they took from it. The location has now changed as a result and has the support needed to become a success.”

“This approach was supported by Patrice Brown ( President of the board of directors of GEC) quickly reminded the audience of the importance of engaging with the local businesses and community as early as possible to ensure proper consultation occurs when planning projects in the region.”

But Niall’s final highlight from day 1 was something that will either strike fear into people or create a sense of opportunity for all.

“When you look at the number of engineers needed to deliver the future pipeline of work, particularly in renewables, we can either be daunted by the number or inspired by it. At Lidiar Group, we are inspired by it, but to achieve those numbers, we are going to have to do a lot of work to ensure that engineering and infrastructure can access the people it needs to succeed. Making STEM more attractive, attracting and retaining talent from within Australia and overseas, improving workplace culture and more will all need to be factored into our industry’s recruitment strategy. While great strides have been made, ensuring we have a pipeline of world-class talent to meet our infrastructure need will define our future success,” said Niall.

Lidiar Group’s Arthur Dimitropoulos and Lachlan Winterbotham are attending this year’s Southeast Asia Australia Offshore & Onshore Conference (SEAAOC). We caught up with Arthur to discuss his thoughts on the conference and its key themes.

“One thing that stood out was the heightened interest in the Northern Territory’s potential to become a $40 billion economy by 2030. The buzz around this goal was palpable, and it’s clear that the energy industry is ready to play a pivotal role in achieving it,” said Arthur.

The Focus on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

“There was a clear and prominent focus on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), emphasising the need to incorporate decarbonisation technology into gas production and distribution. With projects like Gorgon and Santos’ DLNG/Banyu Adan field developments right here in the NT, alongside INPEX’s own CCS initiatives, the industry is actively countering anti-gas sentiments with tangible progress.

It’s crucial that we bridge the perception gap about the role of resources in society. Natural gas is a cornerstone of our civilisation, and CCS is a vital tool in its sustainable future.”

Global Investment and Regulatory Considerations

“Discussions emphasised the importance of maintaining Australia’s reputation as a safe investment destination. We need to ensure that regulations, while essential, don’t divert potential investments to other markets. The slow uptake of CCS, compared to countries like the USA and Canada, underscores the urgency to align our efforts with global goals.”

The Future of LNG

“By 2040 (or even 2050, as some speakers suggested), global LNG demand is set to double from current levels. This presents both opportunities and challenges that we must navigate strategically and requires a whole of industry focus to ensure supply meets demand, covering every aspect of the sector from regulation to infrastructure development to social and environmental management.”

Streamlining Regulatory Processes

“Acknowledgment was made that we need to streamline regulatory approval processes for major infrastructure and resources projects. This is essential for fostering innovation and growth in our industry.”

Project Focus

Two of the Territory’s key projects were placed under the spotlight to emphasise the capability, capacity and maturity of the sector.

Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct

“The Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct took the spotlight, featuring renewable initiatives like solar and hydrogen hubs. The prospect of high-tech manufacturing industries locating here is exciting. We’re also considering common user infrastructure to support this thriving precinct.”

Beetaloo Basin Success

“Lastly, exploration and drilling in the Beetaloo Basin showcased remarkable production milestones with insights shared from the USA’s shale gas industry that have been invaluable in ensuring our success.”

“SEAAOC 2023 has been a testament to our industry’s resilience and adaptability, and Lachlan and I were impressed by every aspect of the event. As an industry, it is now up to us to keep working together to shape a sustainable and prosperous future for the energy sector and the Northern Territory,” said Arthur.
